Jay Morakis is a co-founder of JMR Worldwide as well as a partner in Crosswind Communication and director of its corporate practice, guiding clients in corporate communications, issues management and public relations strategy, primarily servicing technology and business services accounts.
He has experience in strategically positioning corporate enterprises and/or executives to targeted audiences, as well as maintaining and enhancing both corporate and government reputations. He has a specific expertise in both issues management and crisis preparedness actions; wherein he develops preparedness plans geared to the financial, government, media and public communities. Jay previously co-founded his own consultancy as well as served as the lead supervisor in Edelman Public Relations’ Corporate and Issues Management Practice where he led global corporate communications programs, overseeing media relations and speakers bureau campaigns. Prior to working in the Corporate practice, he was part of Edelman’s global technology and financial services groups. Of particular note was his work with Singapore’s Info-communications Development authority (IDA), India’s Cognizant Technologies, and the U.S.’s Knight/Trimark. Additionally, his group ran the global public relations efforts for Factiva in the U.S., England, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Australia.
Prior to his stay at Edelman, Jay held the position of senior counselor at Strategy 21. While there, he developed and implemented corporate issues, branding and publicity campaigns for a wide range of U.S. and European companies, as well as international governments. He worked with clients regarding European technology companies entering the U.S. marketplace (Strata Software), Holocaust lawsuits (Generalli), U.S. financial community studies (Benckiser NV), NATO’s response to Kosovo’s military actions (Bulgaria), and industry-wide reputations (TMA). Jay began his career in Burson-Marsteller’s Public Affairs practice in New York where he managed issues for Phillip Morris’ Tobacco division, the Calcium Supplement Industry, Home Depot, Northeast Utilities’ Nuclear Division and American Home Products. A graduate of Boston University, Jay holds a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in economics.
